This is an idea that I got behind & understood the power of over 20 years ago, and to use a simple expression ‘look to work with non competing-businesses fishing in the same pond as yours’. So for example if you were a manufacturer of bespoke software for use by accountants, it may be useful to seek out other businesses who want to sell into that market such as payroll services providers, pension administration facilitators and look to share or pool knowledge. At worst what would you have to lose in having a no obligation chat with such businesses?-you may pick up a tip, a contact or a thought that comes from left-field and gives you a light-bulb moment.
